A CR7 Ownership Issue

Is anyone brave enough to omit Ronaldo from their Champions League line-ups ?

One fantasy football statistic that is often touted about when discussing upcoming game rounds is ownership levels. This effectively refers to how highly or lowly a player is owned i.e the percentage of participating managers that have selected him in their line-ups. Some managers may be inclined to go against the crowd by fading certain players in an attempt to differentiate their picks.

However, every now and then, a slate throws up a set of fixtures that makes it almost impossible to swerve a player. This week’s UEFA Champions League quarter-final 2nd legs are a case in point and the player in question needs no introduction – step forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

Real Madrid have a two goal deficit to overturn and have a projected goal expectancy of 3.11, with the bookmakers also believing that they have an 80% chance of winning the 2nd leg.

Ronaldo’s impressive stats were well-documented in our Real Madrid vs Wolfsburg preview, so the biggest conundrum fantasy football managers will face should relate to salary constraints. The Portuguese flyer will more than likely be the most expensive proposition with all game  operators, unless of course you are participating in a No Salary Cap event.

One option that might be worth exploring is finding another Real Madrid player that can work in tandem with Ronaldo and then build your line-up around the two of them.

Managers adopting this strategy may be tempted to go for Gareth Bale or Karim Benzema, so it might be worth looking closely at the likes of Luka Modric or Toni Kroos, factoring in any obvious flaws in the Wolfsbug set-up that either of these might exploit, as well as the scoring system that is specific to your choice of contest.
