The Game Minutes Captain

Why Coutinho is the logical Fantasy Premier League ‘Captain’ in the final round

The race for Premier League’s Golden Boot was turned on its head on Thursday, as Harry Kane went on a 4-goal scoring blitz in Spurs 6-1 demolition of dethroned champions’ Leicester City.

It propelled the England striker to the top of the scoring charts, as he smashed through the 25 goal barrier for the third successive year, a quite remarkable feat when you consider that he has only started 28 Premier League games.

Kane is sure to be a popular choice as ‘captain’ in many Gameweek 38 Fantasy Premier League contests but he still has to play second fiddle to Arsenal’s Alexis Sánchez in our latest ‘goal contribution’ rankings.

Sánchez just loves to play football – the Chilean international tops the ‘Captometer’ ratings for the third successive gameweek and he certainly didn’t let his supporters down in GW37, putting in another impressive display in what has been a brilliant Fantasy Premier League campaign.

He’s averaged over 85 minutes per appearance, Kane a fraction shorter, while Chelsea’s Diego Costa fares even better. However, this is in stark contrast to Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho, who is clocking only a shade over 70 minutes per appearance.

This has clearly been hampering him as a fantasy asset but we’re not expecting this to be an issue in GW38, as Liverpool look to confirm their place in next season’s Champions League.

It’s a known fact that more goals are scored in the latter stages of games – specifically the 90th minute and it would appear that Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp is fully aware of this statistic.

Coutinho may have limped off after 13 minutes against Watford but, that apart, he’s only missed a minute in 4 of the Reds other 5 latest  Premier League games, making him arguably the best pick for that GW38 armband.

It’s the final game of the season and Liverpool need to deliver – Fantasy Premier League managers should take note!
