Time for City to turn up the heat?

All eyes on Manchester City assets as Fantasy Premier League managers eye the home stretch

The arrival of the the first double gameweek of the 2018/19 Fantasy Premier League season signals that we are now closing in on the business end of the campaign.

Manchester City’s shock defeat on Tyneside opened the door for Liverpool to extend their lead at the top to 7 points but the Reds fluffed their lines, putting in a nervous display as they could only eke out a point at home to Leicester City.

It doesn’t bode well for a side that have gone over 28 years since they last tasted league title success and we’re not even into ‘Squeaky Bum‘ territory yet.

The Citizens will be looking to make the most of the double gameweek that has presented itself, to really crank up the pressure on the Merseysiders and our latest goal projections indicate that they are expected to score over 5 goals across their two fixtures, a home game with Arsenal followed by a trip to Goodison Park where they will take on Everton.

This means that ‘chip strategy’ will now come to the fore for many FPL managers, with the ‘Triple Captain’ variety very much ‘in-play’ for GW25.

Arsenal’s back-line is down to the bare bones so the last thing they needed  at this stage of the season was a trip to the Etihad. Man City have scored 3 goals in each of the last 4 encounters between the two sides and a repeat could very well be on the cards.

The big problem for FPL managers that are intent on pulling the trigger on the ‘triple captain’ chip is selecting which City asset to go with due to Pep Guardiola’s penchant for rotation, with all of the big hitters in danger of seeing their game minutes reduced significantly over the 2 fixtures.

There is also the small matter of a home game with Chelsea in GW26, so keep a close eye on Guardiola’s scheduled press conference for any possible clues as to what he may be thinking.

It’s likely to be a season-defining call for many Fantasy Premier League managers but in terms of projected goals, there won’t be too many better alternatives for deploying this particular chip!
