Time To Cure The Wildcard Hangover

Gameweek 36 opportunity needed to get back on the right FPL track

After playing the wildcard in GW35, we had to sit back and watch the likes of discarded duo Gylfi Sigurdsson and Joshua King produce the goods yet again, while the 2 members of our squad that we did retain both blanked, with Philippe Coutinho lasting just 13 minutes at Vicarage Road.

It was a risky policy, selecting so many double gameweek players, so we will need to see some rewards this week, when Arsenal and Southampton play twice.

However, last weekend’s injury to Sergio Agüero means that there is a big temptation to draft in Gabriel Jesus even though it would mean taking a hit due to limited funds but it might just be worth it.

The Brazilian started in a front 2, alongside Agüero and significantly, completed the full 90 minutes. That and the doubts surrounding the Argentinian striker’s fitness should ensure plenty of game time for Jesus so he comes in at Jermain Defoe’s expense, with Etienne Capoue replacing Townsend as the makeweight in the deal. Coutinho is included in the starting line-up but he may not feature for Liverpool against the Saints, so Victor Moses stands by.

Harry Kane  relinquishes the armband and despite a temptation to give it to any one of our double gameweek players, we’ve no hesitation in handing it to Jesus, who will need to produce, to justify the 4 point hit we have taken to bring him in.

And in case you forgot, the Friday Night Football, means that there is an early FPL deadline!
